Whew! It's taken us a few days to recover from our March excitement to write this post congratulating the Little Rock Trojans for an incredible NCAA Tournament. Winning the Sun Belt and making the field was plenty achievement for a program that has known hard times over the decades. But then, Chris Beard and his team of juco transfers, walk-ons, and no-names showed they were made of special stuff, upsetting a gigantic, talented Purdue team en route to national acclaim and their second-ever Round of 32 berth (the other coming in 1986).
Little Rock is proud of Little Rock's team, and so are the folks here at Rebsamen Liquor. I remember going to Coach Jim Thome's UALR basketball camp in the '90s, back when the team played at Barton and was represented by an inscrutable acronym, rather a sleek urban rebrand. Everyone in Little Rock has some UALR connection or another. These boys have always had our admiration, but this year they earned a whole new level of respect.
So again, congrats. Let's do it again soon.
